History of Ölüdeniz

Oludeniz is a holiday resort in southwest Turkey, famous for its magnificent natural beauty and turquoise sea. The history of Oludeniz dates back to ancient times. The name of the region in ancient times is “Levissi” and is known to belong to the Lycian civilisation. It was an important settlement during the Lycian period and was used as a trading centre.

During the Ottoman Empire, the Ölüdeniz region was a small village living from agriculture and animal husbandry. However, with the development of tourism since the middle of the 20th century, this settlement has become a centre of tourist attraction. Its unique natural beauty, beaches and ideal conditions for water sports have made Ölüdeniz popular with tourists.

Since the late 1980s, there has been a tourism boom with the construction of tourist facilities in the region. It has become a world famous destination for paragliding in particular. While Ölüdeniz was known for its unique beach and jumps from Mount Babadağ, it continued its development as a neighbourhood of Fethiye district.

Today, Ölüdeniz is known as a holiday resort that attracts tourists from all over the world. It offers visitors an unforgettable experience with its clear sea, adventurous water sports, impressive landscapes and surrounding natural beauty. Its modern tourist charm combined with its historical roots has made Oludeniz one of the most special holiday destinations in Turkey.
