Tlos Ancient City

Known as the Ksonthos Valley, 42 km east of Fethiye, the valley is the legacy of a civilization dating back 11 thousand years.

The ancient city of Tlos is located within the borders of Yaka Village, the district of Fethiye. Located in the center of many ancient cities, Tlos attracts the attention of visitors with its rich history dating back to the Hittites. Neighboring with the cities of Araxa in the north, Oinoanda in the northeast, Kadyanda in the northwest, Xanthos in the south, Pınara in the southwest and Telmessos in the west, the ancient city of Tlos was established on a very large and fertile land, and we understand from the inscriptions that it consisted of many districts and neighborhoods.

It is mentioned in all ancient sources that the Lycian right is of Hellen origin, who took refuge in Anatolia in the 12th century BC. However, the history of the region can be dated back to the Bronze Age thanks to the researches and some archaeological remains. Stone axes and flint hand tools found at the entrance of Girmeler Cave show us that the history of the region goes back to the Late Neolithic Period. This information also proves that the Central Anatolian Neolithic period extends to the western shores.
